THE WILDFLOWER TEAM
Youngsong Martin is the dynamic, multi-award-winning fashion designer and entrepreneur who propelled her high-style rental firm Wildflower Linen into prominence in the domestic and international special-event industries.
In the U.S. and abroad, numerous print and broadcast media have showered attention on Youngsong and her banquet fashions, including spreads in wedding and design magazines, The Wall Street Journal, and on various network and cable television programs. Much of the media attention has focused on Youngsong’s trend-setting influence throughout the special-event and wedding field, whose leaders have hailed her for redefining the concept of rental linens by offering extensive lines of couture-quality tablecloths, chair covers, napkins, table runners and décor accessories.
In 2011 Youngsong was featured on the cover of the special-event industry’s leading trade magazine, BizBash, as one of the nation’s 50 most influential event design professionals.
She began her career as a fashion designer after studying at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco. In her former role as creator of namesake lines of upscale women’s apparel, Youngsong impressed buyers from Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Macy’s and other major retailers as well as owners of chic boutiques throughout the United States.
After relocating from San Francisco, Youngsong was a senior instructor at the prestigious Otis/Parsons Art Institute’s School of Design in Los Angeles. She later melded her affinity for entertaining and fine dining with her expert knowledge of textiles and fabrications to create the thriving special-event decor rental business, Wildflower Linen.
Since founding the company in 2001, Youngsong has grown it into a preferred source nationwide for celebrity event planners, leading hotel and catering executives, discerning organizers of corporate and social functions, and the hosts of gala weddings of all sizes.
As her business evolved, it outgrew two Southern California headquarters facilities before moving in 2006 into a large complex in Buena Park. Youngsong has also launched branch showrooms in the Beverly Hills area and in San Francisco’s popular SoMa warehouse/loft district. A Wildflower Linen showroom began serving coastal Orange County in summer 2009 at the upscale South Coast Collection (“SoCo”) design/decor center in Costa Mesa, where Youngsong debuted her Wildflower Linen Home consumer brand’s home décor products. That opening was followed by her 2010 event rental showroom debut in Scottsdale, Ariz. Another Wildflower Linen showroom opened in 2011 to serve the renowned mountain resort communities of Park City, Utah.
Most recently Youngsong debuted her Wildflower Linen brand in Seoul with the launch of a designer linen rental business – her first overseas branch. Plans now call for a full-scale expansion of the Wildflower Linen event décor rental business to the U.S. East Coast, including a Florida showroom, design studio, rental inventory warehouse, and “green” laundry facility.
Youngsong has twice been honored as Entrepreneur of the Year by Orange County, California, business organizations, and she has been presented with more than a dozen formal commendations from the U.S. Congress and the California Legislature. In 2009 Youngsong won the Trendsetter Award and a Hall of Fame induction from the Association of Bridal Consultants, and she was nominated for the Women in Business Award by the Orange County Business Journal. In 2010 Youngsong was presented the Shining Star Award as “most inspirational person” by the charitable Wish Upon a Wedding organization.
As the exclusive wedding banquet design consultant for several years at the prestigious Lotte Hotel Seoul, Youngsong was hailed in the Korean press as an influential ambassador of West-meets-East style, decor and linen trends. Furthering her reputation in Asia were her starring roles in several Korean TV network documentaries. They portrayed her as the hometown girl from Seoul who made it big in the U.S. wedding and banquet industry before her professional return to overseas markets in recent years.
Those new international ventures have included commissions to decorate a lavish hotel wedding banquet in Shanghai and design a Korean government trade reception in London. Youngsong also designed a high-profile runway show in Seoul for Mag & Logan, one of Asia’s hottest fashion houses. Her “Black Swan” theme party design for the Busan Film Festival in Korea was one of that event’s highlights. A leading TV network in Korea, Seoul Broadcasting System, or SBS, hired Youngsong as production designer for a prime-time series of celebrity-studded awards shows, one for televised dramas, the other for televised comedies.
The noted designer and business leader has been a featured keynote speaker at a major international trade conference in Seoul and at numerous event industry conferences in the U.S. – including those where the effervescent, charismatic Youngsong Martin has presided over her own acclaimed “table linens-as-haute couture” runway fashion shows.
